Sarah Solis Mattson received her MFA Degree in Drawing and Painting from CSU Long Beach in 2000 and in 2006 joined the full time faculty at American River College where she teaches courses in Figure and Portrait Drawing; Painting; Artists Materials & Techniques; 2-D Design; and Art History. Sarah also serves as the Art Department Chair, since 2009.
Sarah says about her work: My observational work is different than the large narrative paintings that are constructed in my studio. They are spontaneous and reveal a mood felt from the model. Formal content is also important in these immediate observational works and I consider them as compelling as a musician who practices scales. That is one of the reasons I started Figure Friday at ARC, so that our students and faculty have a venue to work directly from a model in an open workshop environment.
